HKMU INTERACTIVE WISHING WALL

Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Cast your dream in motion:

We were thrilled to collaborate with Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) on an installation for their orientation day. An installation that combined playful interaction with meaningful reflection.

HKMU is a dynamic institution committed to innovation, accessibility, and student empowerment. Originally established as the Open University of Hong Kong, it transformed into HKMU in 2021 to reflect its expanded vision as a full-fledged university.

Known for its flexible learning models and real-world relevance, HKMU prepares students to thrive in a fast-changing world; making it the perfect partner for a project blending creativity with intentionality.

HKMU wanted an installation that would:

• Encourage new students to articulate their goals

• Break the ice in a relaxed, interactive way

• Leave a visual impact that symbolized collective aspirations

Our solution? A Wishing Wall where students could literally "cast their dreams" into motion.

For us, every detail matters. From the ergonomic curvature of the half-pipes (ensuring smooth ball rolls) to the durable yet vibrant materials chosen for high foot traffic, we engineered the Wishing Wall for both impact and longevity. The labels were carefully tested for readability and tone, and even the ball size was optimised for easy handling and a satisfying toss.

Our team supervised production and on-site setup to ensure flawless interactivity—because seamless execution is what transforms a good idea into an unforgettable experience.

The final installation featured six gleaming half-pipes, each representing a core aspiration:

• Lover (Relationships)

• Friends (Community)

• Money (Financial confidence)

• Exchange (Global experiences)

• U-Life (Campus memories)

• Jobs (Career readiness)

Students picked a ball and tossed it into their chosen tube, turning an abstract goal into a tangible, visual commitment. The interactive nature of the wall sparked conversations and made the experience memorable.

Beyond its vibrant design, the Wishing Wall encouraged students to pause and think about their priorities. The act of casting a ball became a small but meaningful ritual; a reminder that their time at HKMU is what they make of it.

The installation also served as a conversation starter, helping students connect over shared ambitions. Most importantly, it reinforced HKMU’s message: "Define your goals and take steps toward them."

This project was a fantastic opportunity to blend creativity with purpose. By combining interactive design, self-reflection, and a touch of playfulness, we helped HKMU set an inspiring tone for Orientation Day.
